The leading steel makers of India contributed Rs 5.5 crore for Uttarakhand relief lead by Steel Union Minister, Beni Prasad Verma. All the leading Public sector undertakings of the country namely, National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and Manganese Ore India Limited (MOIL) have jointly contributed for the relief fund for Uttarakhand. NMDC contributed Rs 2.5 crore, SAIL contributed Rs 1 crore and RINL and MOIL contributed Rs 75 Lakh each. Along with the above mentioned PSUs, Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) donated a one day salary of the employees’ up to Rs 24 lacs and added Rs 26 lacs from its own funds.
Uttarakhand faced a severe natural calamity in the form of cloud burst on June 15, 2013. Continuous heavy rain in the state since June 14, 2013, has caused floods and landslides affecting lives of people and causing problem for food and lodging for those who are left alive.
Steel Union Minister expressed his condolence about the incidence and for the lives lost in the calamity. He gave assurance of continuous support from the government in the state for saving lives of people and helping them with provision for food and shelter.
The cheque was being handed to the state government in the presence of D.R.S. Chaudhary, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Joint Secretaries of the Ministry and CMDs of PSUs under the Ministry. Representing the state government for receiving the fund amount, Sunnel Kumar Mutto, Chief Resident Commissioner of Uttarakhand was also present.
