TOP FIVE IRON ORE PRODUCERS IN INDIA in 2012-2013
India is the 4th largest Iron ore producing country in the world. However, according to provisional data released by Indian Ministry of Mines, its overall production has plunged over 14% Y-o-Y to around 143 million tons in 2012-2013.
Iron ore production in the country has been steadily falling in the wake of a ban imposed in Karnataka a year-and-a-half ago, and a similar ban across the Western Indian Coastal region of Goa in October 2012. Mining was currently permitted in the Eastern state of Odisha but with severe restrictions on transportation. Indian Iron ore exports during the ten-month period between April 2012 and January 2013 were down 68% to 16.35 million tons, compared to the corresponding period last year.
NMDC remains the largest Iron ore producer in India, with an annual production of over 27 MnT followed by Steel Authority of India with 24 MnT, Tata steel at 15 MnT. Odisha stayed the highest Iron ore producing state followed by Chhattisgarh.
