Odisha High Court put stay on odisha government’s order on collection of
stamp duty from miners operating under deemed extension.
In a major set back to Odisha government’s order on stamp duty collection from miners operating under deemed extension has got stay from Odisha High Court, till further notice. Odisha government had issued a notice to on 3rd of July 2013 for payment of stamp duty till 9th July or face closure.
After miners fail to convince the Odisha government for a relaxation, they had to knock the High Court’s door against the state government’s decision to levy stamp duty.
As many as 40 mining lease holders have filed cases in High Courtpraying for abolition of the stamp duty. The petitioners include Federation of Indian Mineral Industries(FIMI) ,SAIL, MCL, Odisha Mineral Development Corporation(OMDC),Corp Resourses, Nalco, Jindal Steel and Power,Rungta, Gandhamardan minerals, Penguin Minerals, Tetra, KJS Aluwalia. Besides,Tata Steel was the first to approach the Court on last Saturday.
