Beni Prasad Verma, Union Minister for Steel in his address at the Steel Summit 2013, organized by Ministry of Steel and CII together on September 4, 2013, said that the steel producers should adopt suitable technologies for producing special grade Steel at a competitive price. The Summit was organized with the theme of ‘Roadmap for Global Competitiveness: Opportunities and Challenges.’
Mr. Verma said that there is a huge potential for Steel industry to enter the Indian rural market. Rural market is to a large extent untouched by the steel industry and hence has good scope. He also said that the low grade iron ore can be used if the Pelletisation technology is adopted by the industry. He further added that the Steel producers should try and make their businesses more sustainable for the growth of steel industry.
Indian steel industry should invest more on its R&D (Research and Development) for continuous up gradation of technologies. Mr. Verma also listed the steps being taken by the Ministry of Steel for motivating the steel industry for better growth and development. He added that usage of technologies like slurry pipelines could be a very good alternative for transportation of raw materials to the plants.
Other honorable delegates present during the Steel Summit 2013 were, C.S. Verma, Chairman at SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited), A.P. Choudhary, CMD, RINL (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited) and Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry). Senior officials from the Ministry of Steel, CII representatives and other delegates of steel industry were also present in the Summit.
