China leads the 10 steel producing countries in 2013 while India ranks 4th in overall output.
World in 2013 has produced about 1,607 MnT of Steel, 35 percent more as compared to the production of 2012 at 1,548 MnT. Crude Steel contribution was majorly from Asian and Middle Eastern countries.
China leads in the Steel production with a total contribution of 779 MnT witnessing a growth of 7.5 percent over previous year. The leading Steel producing companies in China such as Hebei Iron & Steel, BaoSteel Group and Wuhan Iron & Steel contributed the most towards the country’s output in the world. Hebei Iron and Steel ranked as the 3rd largest Steel producing company of the world in 2012 followed by BaoSteel Group with a production of 42.8 MnT and 42.7 MnT respectively.
Japan is the 2nd largest Steel producing countries of the world in 2013 with the help of leading companies such as Nippon Steel and JFE holdings. The country produced a total of 110.6 MnT Crude Steel up by 3.1 percent as compared to 107.2 MnT of 2012. Nippon Steel was the world’s 2nd largest Steel producing company in 2012 with a production of 47.9 MnT. The company was officially merged with Sumitomo Metal Industries in Oct, 2012.
United States stood 3rd in the list of leading steel producing countries in 2013, but with minor decline of 2 percent in its annual production 87 MnT as compared to 88.7 MnT in 2012.
India is the 4th in the list with an annual growth of 5.1 percent in Steel production at 81.2 MnT in 2013 compared to 77.3 MnT of 2012. India’s leading companies, Tata Steel, SAIL, and JSW Steel were the major contributors towards India’s overall crude Steel output. In 2012, Tata Steel had produced 23 MnT followed by SAIL at 13.5 MnT and JSW Steel at 8.5 MnT.
Russia was the 5th largest Steel producing country of 2013 with an output of 69.4 witnessing a decline of 1.5 percent from 70.4 MnT output in 2012. The other five leading countries in the list namely South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and Ukraine also witnessed a decline in their output as compared to 2012.
